Chocolate Making Experience at Malagos Chocolate Museum
You might already heard of Malagos Chocolate, international award-winning chocolates from Davao but have you heard of Malagos Chocolate Museum and chocolate making at their Malagos Chocolate Laboratory in Malagos Garden Resort, a resort in Davao that is good for kids? If you’re looking for a Davao family bonding resort, look no further. Here’s a sneak peek of my personal chocolate-making experience with my kids at the Malagos Chocolate Factory.
Inclusions. Price includes 2 boxes, a pair of disposable and biodegradable gloves, hair net, an apron (which they provide inside the Chocolate laboratory), and of course 200 grams of premium Malagos Dark Chocolate. You might think that 200 grams is not that substantial but 200 grams actually already fills up the 2 boxes that are included in the activity. If you’re a bit on a budget or only have 1 kid with you, you can ask to do 100 grams instead of the 200 grams.
Price. 200 grams costs PHP 450. 100 grams cost P250. The chocolate liquid used is premium artisanal chocolate and your fillings and toppings selection are wide — from kiddie sweets (sprinkles, marshmallows, candies…etc.) to a more mature selection (mint leaves, dried fruits, rock salt, chili flakes…etc). If you ask me I think it’s worth every peso given the inclusions (plus the chocolate laboratory is instagrammable! Unli-photo entries on social media for days!).
Experience. The museum experience was an eye opener. To be honest with you, I came to their chocolate museum without any knowledge about chocolates in general. I just know that dark chocolate is a bitter version of my favorite milk chocolate. I didn’t like dark chocolate that much because it was too bitter for my own taste and I can’t imagine why people value dark chocolates more than milk chocolate. However, when I got around cacao’s history, how chocolate is made, how chocolate is supposed to be eaten and what aromas and taste to look at, I now grew more appreciative of dark chocolate. I have now moved on from my childish taste for milk chocolate and have grown a fond taste for dark, artisanal, cruel-free, single-origin dark chocolates from Davao!
While waiting for Malagos Garden Resort to reopen, you can get your Malagos fix through their online grocery store Malagos Homegrown Produce. They have their signature Malagos Chocolates available for purchase and delivery within Davao City.
