Spending Holidays in My Hometown

Originally from the United States, the word staycation is a neologism originating from the contraction of ‘stay’ and ‘vacation.’ According to the Cambridge Dictionary, rather than going to another location, it means holidays that you take at home or near your home. Rather a staycation is an ecological way to enjoy your holidays near your house. It is synonymous with reduced congestion, saving money and not adding to the sheer confusion that exists in some of the most touristic parts in the country. Let’s look a little closer.

A staycation is a form of alternative tourism that is entirely compatible with the pattern of slow tourism. You are welcomed by sluggish tourism to remain in the present moment. It allows you to take your time, explore surrounding landscapes, reconnect with the individuals you love and spend more time outdoors in nature. You do what you feel like doing (with proactivity and without continuously giving into temptations like Netflix) and there is no rush to go from one activity to another or to keep occupied all the time. There are no fully packed days. Therefore if you encourage your adventurous mind and drive yourself to discover new ways and new things to do, here are some of the advantages of a stay:

  1. Staycation reduces the burden of arranging a trip: from seeking hotels to planning numerous suitcases loaded with clothes that are not even worn enough times;
  2. This makes it easier to do things that you cannot do during the year because of a busy schedule, such as visiting the permanent museum collections, taking advantage of the good weather to (finally) practice some sports in the local parks;
  3. Staycation also promotes the local economy. You can take advantage of vacations to take a tour on the local markets, go to the farm to pick fruits and vegetables, take part in the seasonal sports or artistic courses; or even to spend a night in an interesting hotel nearby;
  4. Another probable advantage of staycation is finding or rediscovering the beauty of your town or country, which we sometimes fail to note due to tension and the force of habit;
  5. Last but not least: staycation helps you to understand how the current moment can be taken advantage of.

As a busy professional who tends to get overwhelmed with work sometimes, I’m lucky enough to have a lot of holiday getaway resorts in Davao which I can choose from. I can even bring my family with me for a pseudo-travel in Davao family-friendly resorts such as Malagos Garden. If you want to know more about this Davao staycation resort and their offers, check them out at malagos.com!
